Just checking in!

From: (RiskyNil@pocketmail.com) | Date: 2003-04-23 15:41:42 UTC-07:00
For those of you keeping track, I've made it to North Carolina!!! I'm near Franklin at the moment, over 100 miles behind me! (Over 2000 left to go. *sigh*)

Hey, Lucy, email me about where in NC you are. I forgot!

Oh, I also initiated my roving event stamp to comemorate my historic adventure. It's only good for a limited time, though. It was officially introduced to the world April 16, my first day on the trail. The stamp will be discontinued the last day I leave the trail which is who knows when. Get it now before it's too late! =)

If anyone checks the registers at the shelters, I've been signing my entries with my signature stamp, a green turtle. Look for it! =)

-- Ryan

PS. Haven't you folks in NC ever heard of switchbacks?!!! Sheeze!

I can't take credit for this! I won't reveal who said it! But I
think it would be fun to throw it out to all who might be
interested!
I'm choosing an even 50 days! That would be June 13th.

"After reading Ryan's message, I sat down to do some math. His
average is about 14- 15 miles a day. Not bad! 15 miles a day should
get him to the WVA/VA/MD area about June 21 ( 59 days). If he picks
up his pace and hikes 20 miles a day it will be 44 days or June 6.
So who wants to bet that he does it in 44 days?"

I can't take credit for this! I thought it would be fun to throw it
out to everyone and to see who comes the closest. Like the movie "Rat
Race". Place your bets. You win nothing, it's all in fun!
I choose 50 days, that would make it June 13th.
Once Ryan makes it to MD than we can place bets on another focal
point like CT.

Before I wager a bet, we will need to clarify what the WVA/VA/MD
area means 'cause that covers a lot of miles! I predict he will be
in Maryland on June 14 but I will not commit to what part of MD,
just that he will be in the state on that day. So, Psychomommy,
what are you willing to wager?

I would say that the WVA/VA/MD area means "Harpers Ferry". Looks
like one big junction to me on the map, plus the AT runs through
Harpers Ferry. I think that Ryan will make it to Harpers Ferry by
June 10. I think he will pick up his pace after he leave the
Smokies.

Are we going to try and pull together a get together when Ryan gets to the
Mid Atlantic? Of course, he'll probably be pretty smelly by then... But,
he'll still have a great sense of humor, so, what the hell! Let me know.

I think that would be a great idea! If he is coming to the Harper's Ferry
area, we could go out there to greet him and bring him a care package or
something and have an exchange frenzy. Anyone else interested? Mother of

--- It's in the works! He said he'd let me know!
So far I know ADG, Squirrel, possibly Firefly, Knights of
Columbo, Mary daughter of Old Dominium, Princess T and of course I
will be eagerly waiting with care packages. Remember they have to be
small and light weight.
Tammy - if you win you can name your prize! If I win I'd like
one of those rich yummy Choco Shakes! :-)

Depending on what day of the week Ryan arrives, I would love to join
everyone in H.F. I am sure he will stop there at the AT headquarters
to sign in and get notes off the board.
Unfortunately I direct a summer resident camp and may be tied up
(literally - i hope not) during the week. So my bet would be a June
15 arrival, so I could be there!
I have met some of the ADG,Firefly, PT and Psycomommy. And after
seeing the other local's stamps or boxes, an exchange could be really
fun!
I will keep my eye on the list for updates.

I have a correction, not the Knights of Columbo, I meant
justplaingeorge. Although they are invited too. Heck everyone can
come to this shindig! So far it looks like a lot of women, poor boy!!!
Scarab and Newbi better attended so Ryan doesn't feel henpecked!
So far the dates picked for Ryan's EDA are:
Hiker June 10
Psychomommy 13
Tammy ADG#1 14
Sam I AM 15
Place your bets: wages are up to individuals, and only if you feel
like it. For example I chose food.
